Processes and materials

Sterling Silver

My pieces alloy is made of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% copper. Sterling silver is known for its
• Bright appearance
• Association with elegance
• Relatively low cost compared to other precious metals
• Good reflector of light, shiny

Fine silver (99.9% pure)

Is usually alloyed with copper to give it strength, while at the same time preserving the ductility and beauty of the precious metal.

3D Printed Sterling Silver products are made using a three-step process. The products are created with a lost-wax casting process using a high-resolution 3D wax printer. The 3D printed wax model is put in a container and liquid plaster is poured around it to create a mold. After the plaster sets, the wax is melted out and molten silver is poured into the plaster mold. The plaster is then pulled away to reveal the silver and the finished product is hand polished to achieve a smooth finish still having some surface texture.

Please note that while the metal content of the silver products is verified, individual pieces are not tested or hallmarked by an assay office or governmental agency.

 

Brass

Consists of 15% zinc, 5% tin, and 80% copper

Brass pieces are fabricated using a complex five-step process.

  • First, the model is printed in wax using a specialized high-resolution 3D Printer.
  • It is then put in a container where liquid plaster is poured in around it.
  • Once the plaster sets, the wax is melted out in a furnace, and the remaining plaster becomes the mold.
  • Molten brass is poured into this mold and set to harden. The plaster is broken away, revealing the product.
  • Then is carefully cleaned and hand polished to give it a smooth, shiny finish.

Like all brass, will tarnish over time and may need to be polished.


Bronze

Consists of 10% tin and 90% copper.

Bronze is a high-detail metal with a deep red color similar to rose gold. It has a subtle marbling effect, and the silvery highlights give each piece their own unique character.

Bronze models are fabricated using a complex five-step process.

  • First, the model is printed in wax using a specialized high-resolution 3D Printer.
  • It is then put in a container where liquid plaster is poured in around it.
  • Once the plaster sets, the wax is melted out in a furnace, and the remaining plaster becomes the mold.
  • Molten bronze is poured into this mold and hardens quickly. The plaster is broken away, revealing your model. 
  • Then the object is carefully cleaned and goes through extensive hand polishing to give it a smooth, glossy finish.

A safe, transparent nano coating is added to the surface in order to protect the products from tarnishing. However, over time and wear, the bronze will still naturally tarnish, like all bronze and may need to be polished.
